St John of Capistrano

St John of Capistrano

Remove from your lives the filth and uncleanness of vice.
Your upright lives must make you the salt of the earth for yourselves
and for the rest of humankind..  St John of Capistrano

A preacher once said, Time consciousness is great wisdom. It means that nothing will always be as it is at the moment. Reality in always in constant flux. You will not always be where you are and you will not always have what you possess presently. Change is constant in life. It means we have to make best use of time we have, what we have and where we are at the moment. There is no better way of utilizing time than using it well because time flies.

In today’s Gospel, there is a great sense of fear and horror among those who approach Jesus with the tragic news of the massacre of some Galileans by Pontus Pilate, who he mingled their blood with the sacrifice they were making in the temple at Jerusalem. The place of worship is sacred and a shelter of the people of God. Perhaps, some were thinking this could stir him up as a revolt since he is a prophet from Galilea or make Him not to go on His way to Jerusalem. Some were also thinking probably the Galileans were sinful and that could have led to their own peril.

At this, Christ establishes the call to repentance and seconded it with another recent tragic story of those taken away by sudden death at the collapse of wall at the tower of Siloam. Using these similar event of tragedy, Christ warns them to make use of the time to repent and be close to God. Using the parable of the fruit-less fig tree, Christ gives all of us the awakening call to repent of our sins, to be sorry for what we have done wrongly and never to do them anymore. Repentance is a sure way of escaping perishing or eternal damnation. We all have a future to live and we have to decide what that future will be.

Repentance is life and procrastination is a thief of time. We have the privilege and grace of being repentant of our sins. Repentance is now. Now is the time. This is the day of salvation

May the signs of God’s love for you remain strong and ever increasing. May Christ always stand great and victorious in your life and may Mary, the refuge of sinners pray for us always.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
