Store Up Your Treasures In Heaven

2 Corinthians 11:18,21-30
Matthew 6:19-23

In today’s gospel, Jesus says, “Store up treasures for yourselves in heaven..” All the earthly possessions, we have belongs to God and are meant to serve physical needs and not to control our desires and our lives. In other words, He is telling us to put all our treasures within the larger context of the things of heaven; to reflect on whether we place our trust on.earthly possession or spiritual treasures? Do we yearn for heavenly treasures the way we seek earthly possessions? Do we long for His love, mercy, and grace or do we think we desire the latest fashion and the newest things that everyone is talking about?do we look for peace, compassion, and joy or seek for the largest commercial product?

On the second half of our Gospel reading in a particular way. Jesus says: “The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”Jesus calls us to see things differently. He invites us to let Him in and fix our “eyes” to see as He does; to see each other, and indeed all of creation, as beloved by God, and not as objects of domination or exploitation. Jesus came so that we may all gain and have everlasting life.
