Super Eagles Will Win 2023 AFCON Title – Mikel Obi

Former Nigerian men’s football team captain Mikel Obi believes the Super Eagles will win the 2023 African Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria was drawn in Group A of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) against the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.

The draw took place on Thursday, October 12 at the Parc Des Expositions in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

While the Super Eagles face Equatorial Guinea in their first match, Ivory Coast face Guinea-Bissau on January 13.

Nigeria last won the tournament in 2013, with Mikel as captain, and will attempt to win a fourth time after winning in 1980 and 1994.

Speaking to CAF online on Thursday, Mikel stated confidently that the Super Eagles will win and bring the trophy home to Nigeria.

“This is coming home. The tournament is coming home, AFCON 2023 is coming home to Nigeria,” Mikel Obi said.

The knockout stage is open to all group winners and runners-up, as well as the four highest-ranked third-placed teams.

The delayed competition, scheduled for January 13 and February 11, 2024, will feature twenty-four teams. The tournament was supposed to take place this year, but it was postponed following the 2022 World Cup, which took place in December.
