The Twelve Disciples

1 Cor 6:1-11
Lk 6:12-19

After Jesus had spent all the night praying to the Heavenly Father, He chooses his twelve apostles. He then went down with them to a piece of level ground where there was a gathering of disciples together with a great crowd of people from all parts of Israel.

The disciple of Jesus is the one sent to preach repentance, to drive out evil, to anoint the sick and cure them.
As disciples of Christ, the words of Jesus today can help us appreciate the importance of our role and help us to gain both the confidence and knowledge that Jesus has overcome evil and that he is with us each step of the way.

He calls us therefore with a mission to be his disciples with no payment under his tutelage or preparation. He seeks no recommendation from our virtuous emotions. If you have no good feelings, if you be but willing, you are invited; therefore come! Our faith will be tried and if it be of the true kind, it will bear continued trial . We shall not grow weary of waiting upon God in prayer if we remember how long and how graciously he once waited for us and prayed for us all night long.
