There Is Power In The Word

There is power in the word. If our words are imbued with Spirit, we will truly have the power to change the world.

Thess 5:1-6,9-11
Luke 4:31-37

When we listen to today’s Gospel account of Jesus healing the man possessed by a demon, one cannot but stand amazed at the Lord’s authority. His words carry a lot of power. The people of Capernaum were amazed at the power of Jesus’ words. He was able to cast out demons, calm the sea and wind, and soften hardened hearts using His words. How often in today’s world do we use words to harm and destroy, to break down, or to divide.?

As disciples of Christ, we have the Good News to proclaim in both word and deed! To be alive is a miracle and we experience his miraculous deeds in our lives daily. We need to bring dialogue where there seems to be conflict and violence. We need to be as transparent as possible; understand ourselves and be honest in our words and deeds. All of this should be done with compassion, both for ourselves as well as those we are dialoguing with. In everything Christ wants to reach out to others through you and his words, attitudes, and teachings are our true guiding light. May the Spirit of the Lord help us to have enough faith and courage to speak up boldly and to bring healing to our world. Amen.
