Thursday Of Week 34 In Ordinary Time

Thursday Of Week 34 In Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel passage, Jesus foretells the destruction of Jerusalem. If the Temple of Jerusalem that was so cherished by His people can be destroyed, it means we must focus on where we are going to spend our eternity and obey God’s word. The Bible says in Matthew 24:35, Heaven and earth will pass away but My Word will not pass away. The world and all its affairs are temporal and does not lead to everlasting life. Having faith in God implies therefore trusting in His Word and carry them out in true obedience.

The episode of Daniel in the lion’s den is a story of God’s intervention , power and providence over the life of those who are faithful and just. Of course, the presidents and satraps (Persian governors or subordinate of a ruler) of his time knew for sure that he was a man of prayer. When you are a man of prayer you are powerful because you are in a relationship with the Almighty God , the All powerful God. No power can wrest your soul not in this life or in the next. There will be trials and temptations but we must continue to persevere in our faithfulness to God.

And so, even though Jesus speaks of wars and insurrections and nation rising up against nation, we are called to continue to work for justice and peace. Why bother? Because the One who has loved us has called us to love God and love each other in return. And in love, we need not fear but have faith in His word. The Lord cherishes us and encourages us with his words today. He says, stand erect, Hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand. Do not be afraid.

Thank you Lord for saving me. Thank you my Lord.
