President Bola Tinubu is urging the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, to put aside their escalating differences for the sake of the state’s peace and development. The president’s intervention comes in response to growing concerns that this ongoing feud could destabilize the political and security landscape of Benue State.
In his address at the Progressive Governors Forum Renewed Hope Ambassadors Summit 2026 held in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the vital importance of unity among the state’s leaders. “Benue deserves peace, and Benue deserves development,” he declared, calling on Akume and Alia to collaborate effectively for the welfare of their constituents.
The feud, which reportedly involves disputes over policy decisions and political loyalty, has drawn significant public attention and led to fears of a prolonged crisis that may affect governance and security in the region.
Analysts warn that continued discord could exacerbate existing challenges in Benue, such as agricultural development and public safety, further jeopardizing the lives of its citizens. The president’s appeal highlights a pivotal moment in the quest for political stability in Benue, urging leaders to prioritize their state’s interests above personal grievances.
