DOING THE WILL OF GOD MAKES US MEMBERS OF CHRIST’S FAMILY

In today’s gospel passage, Our Lord Jesus Christ emphasizes that those who fulfill the will of the Father in heaven are his true family, surpassing the ties of biological relationships. While not disowning his earthly family, Jesus underscores the significance of a relationship with God, predicated on a wholehearted commitment to fulfilling God’s will. Notably, Mary, the mother of Jesus, epitomizes this duality as both the physical mother of Jesus and the first to submit to God’s will, thus serving as a model disciple.

Being a Christian or a disciple entails entry into the family of Jesus, fostering renewed connections with God and others, taking precedence over all other associations, including familial ones. As Christians, our primary allegiance is to God, reflected in our actions and choices. The imperative to align ourselves with God’s will is highlighted, underscoring that our ultimate belonging is determined by our obedience to God’s will during our earthly existence.

Today, we are reminded therefore of our responsibility to consistently adhere to God’s will, solidifying our place in the authentic family of Jesus, where love unites us with one another and with God. Let us strive to be dutiful collaborators in the mission and vocation entrusted to us, aligning our actions with the divine will. This is our prayer, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

God bless
