Two Arrested For Dumping Refuse On Lagos Highway

Two individuals have been detained for allegedly disposing of waste illegally along the Ikorodu-Itowolo highway in Lagos.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this on X, stating that the suspects were apprehended and taken to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force office. He noted that the vehicles involved in the unlawful act have been seized and are being held at the LAWMA office.

He indicated that the suspects will face court proceedings at the earliest opportunity.

“In the early hours of Tuesday, 11th June 2025, officers of the Monitoring and Compliance Department of LAWMA apprehended individuals found illegally dumping refuse by the roadside along the Ikorodu–Itowolo highway.

The culprits were immediately arrested and transferred to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force office in Oshodi for further processing. The vehicle used in the illegal activity was impounded and is currently secured at LAWMA Ogudu office.

Both offenders have been handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps for prosecution in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.”
