Unique Parrot Breaks Guinness World Record

A bird that went viral on TikTok demonstrated his intellect by setting a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the most things a parrot can identify in three minutes. Apollo, an African grey parrot of four years old, set the record by correctly identifying twelve objects, which included a sock, a block, and a rock, from St Petersburg, Florida.

Content creators Dalton and Victoria Mason, his “proud parents,” believe that their achievement brings attention to animals’ “natural intelligence,” which is sometimes overlooked. Our goal is to increase public awareness of animals’ innate intelligence.

We hope that our title will alter the connotation of the term “bird brain,” the duo said.

Apollo was initially seen by the couple in December 2020 at a nearby pet store, and they immediately knew he would become a member of the family. Apollo has amassed a following of over 2.8 million on TikTok and 1.37 million on YouTube, where he goes by the accounts Apollo and Frens.

It appears that other people find his pranks entertaining. Apollo’s favorite food is pistachios, so they strive to keep him as active as possible. They claim to have been inspired by animal psychologist Dr. Irene Pepperberg’s model-rival method, which she used with an African grey parrot named Alex.

Two trainers were used in this method: one would provide instructions, while the other would serve as Alex’s competition for the trainer’s attention by modeling appropriate and inappropriate answers.

High intelligence was demonstrated by Alex, and Dr. Pepperberg demonstrated that parrots are capable of communicating in ways other than just duplicating noises. Apollo has also demonstrated his intelligence, as stated by his owners:

“Once he started to learn his first object labels, colours and materials, we knew that he would be able to achieve many of the incredible things that Alex did and potentially much more. “There is really no limit to what we hope Apollo will learn.”
