Alibaba, a comedian, has publicly said that he supports polygamy.
He made this claim in an interview with media personality Nedu, Alibaba clarified that having many wives promotes cooperation and lowers the possibility of dispute, which can help keep the harmony in the household.
Alibaba went on to point out that widows with small children were occasionally married to a brother-in-law in order to provide for the children.
“Some people feel if it’s only one wife, you may not be able to control the wife,” he said. “But if the wife knows that you have more than one, she will calm down because she knows that if she misbehaves, another person is available.”
“I actually know of a woman in Ibadan who encouraged her husband to be a polygamist. Most of them back then would marry a young girl and gift her to the husband because they didn’t want the man to have concubines,” he added.
He claimed that this was another instance of how polygamy might be used for a good in society.
In his conclusion, he acknowledged that not everyone supports polygamy but upheld his conviction that it is still a useful and culturally significant practice in some situations
