We Are Capable Of Amazing Things

We are capable of Amazing things.

In today’s gospel passage, we can imagine the moment of panicked excitement on that occasion when the boats began to sink because of the haul
Think of it: The Lord provided just that many fish on purpose—enough almost to sink the very boats they were fishing from, but not one too many.

Peter in his own account realized that there is more than the catch of fish here. He falls at the feet of Jesus and confesses, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:8).

We are capable of Amazing things.

Our Lord wants to convince us that He has more to give us than we can possibly gather in, and that it is our nothingness that opens us to receive His gifts. He want us to realize that like him, we too can do amazing like Peter and St. Patrick who became fishers of men and pastors of souls.

As we commemorate St. Patrick today, the secondary patron of Nigeria, we remember the (Irish)missionaries who help spread the message of Christ in many parts of Nigeria. Through Patrick, Christ’s gospel spread from Ireland to Nigeria and beyond.

We pray in the words of St. Patrick today for all missionaries and all Christians that; May the strength of God pilot us, may the wisdom of God instruct us, may the hand of God protect us, may the word of God direct us. Be always ours this day and for evermore. Amen.
