Weekly Football News Catch Up: August 28th: Pep Guardiola Undergoes Back Surgery; Kelechi Iheanacho To Leave Leicester City; Others

Pep Guardiola Undergoes Back Surgery

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has undergone emergency back surgery, according to a statement released by the club on Tuesday.

Guardiola had the treatment done in Barcelona, where he is currently recovering.

The 52-year-old will miss Man City’s Premier League fixtures against Sheffield United and Fulham before returning following the international break in September.

“Pep Guardiola has today undergone a routine operation on a back problem.

“Everyone at Manchester City wishes Pep a speedy recovery, and looks forward to seeing him back in Manchester soon,” Man City’s statement read.

This comes after Guardiola led Manchester City to a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United last weekend.

Kelechi Iheanacho Likely To Leave Leicester City

Crystal Palace are likely to begin talks with Leicester City in the coming days to sign Kelechi Iheanacho.

According to rumours, the London club would make a bid of £10 million to £12 million for the Nigeria international.

Leicester City want to get rid of Iheanacho, who has a year left on his deal.

If the Foxes are unable to reach an agreement with a club before the end of the current transfer window, the forward will go on a free transfer next summer.

Iheanacho wants to leave the King Power Stadium as well because he does not want to play in the Sky Bet Championship.

Kevin De Bruyne Names Bruno Fernandez “A Creative Machine”

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has dubbed Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes the Premier League’s top midfielder.

De Bruyne put Fernandes ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison and Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard in an interview with Sky Sports.

When asked about his choice, the Belgian responded, “I think he is a creative machine.”

Last season, De Bruyne generated 98 chances for the league. Fernandes, on the other hand, clocked in at 119.

Despite this, De Bruyne finished the season with 16 assists, whereas Fernandes only had half of that number.

Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Hat-Trick, Helps Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al-Nassr, has responded to his team’s 5-0 Super Pro League victory over Al Fateh on Friday.

Ronaldo’s hat-trick and Sadio Mane’s brace helped Al-Nassr upset Al Fateh in an away match.

In response, Ronaldo praised his colleagues for their amazing team effort against the host in an Instagram post.

The former Manchester United striker also advised his Al-Nassr teammates to maintain their winning mindset.

He wrote: “Another incredible team effort – let’s go @AlNassrFC_EN.”

With three points from three games after their win over Al Fateh, Al-Nassr has moved up to tenth place in the Saudi Pro League rankings.

Their next match is against Al-Shabab on Tuesday.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
