83-Year-Old Arrested Over Alleged Past Paedophilic Actions

A retired 83-year-old teacher has been detained by South African authorities on suspicion of preying on students at two prestigious public schools in Scotland.

The 83-year-old, whose real name cannot be revealed due to legal restrictions, but was referred to by Ian Blackford, Former SNP leader “Edgar”, will appear before the city’s Wynberg Magistrates Court later today.

The 83-year-old, nicknamed “Jimmy Savile Mark II,” has been charged with crimes against boys committed in the 1970s at Fettes College and Edinburgh Academy. He, however, disputes all accusations.

BBC presenter Nicky Campbell, who attended the Academy in the 1970s, has spearheaded calls for him to be extradited to the UK to face justice, with a court hearing scheduled for later this year.

Edgar disputed allegations that he abused students when working as a teacher in Scotland and then again when he relocated to Cape Town to work at a prestigious school.

He is currently shielded from identification by a Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry order.

But earlier this month, former SNP leader Blackford invoked his parliamentary privilege to identify him in the Commons as “Edgar.”

On January 16, during a Commons session of Education Questions, Mr. Blackford told MPs: “All of us in this house will prioritise keeping school children safe from sexual predators and I am sure the minister will be aware of the Scottish Child Abuse enquiry detailing the horrific allegations from a number of witnesses to events at Edinburgh Academy and Fettes schools by an individual referred to as ”Edgar”.

“I have a number of constituents who have complaints against ”Edgar”. This man has admitted to inappropriate behaviour and is currently fighting extradition from South Africa where he has been publicly named.

“There is precedence (sic) in England where another alleged abuser living in South Africa whose extradition has been sought has been publicly named.

“We now know that there are dozens of boys who have come forward to the police with allegations against the man referred to as ”Edgar”. It is important that others who were abused by this man can come forward.

“It is right that his crimes against children are named – and it is also right that he is now named.”

Earlier this month, Mr. Campbell, 61, claimed he saw “Edgar” abusing his friend in the locker rooms of his school. He said his behaviour was “so ubiquitous” that all the students were aware of what was happening.

When asked about this on BBC Breakfast, Mr. Campbell said: “He could well be one of the most prolific paedophiles in British criminal history if you do the maths and look at how long he taught and how many schools he was at.”

After Campbell made the claims public, other former students of Edinburgh Academy and Fettes College came forward with complaints of abuse.

Since then, Edinburgh Academy has apologized to the public and stated that the school is working with law enforcement.

Fettes College, whose alumni include former Prime Minister Tony Blair, issued a statement to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry in which it expressed its “full and unreserved apology.”
