My Son Should’ve Been The President, Not Me’ – Joe Biden

Former US President Joe Biden, sporting a bandage on his head, spoke to Nebraska Democrats on Friday, November 8, asserting that his late son, Beau, should have been elected commander-in-chief in 2020.

The comments were delivered during a speech at the Nebraska Democratic Party’s Ben Nelson Gala, where the former President leveled sharp criticisms against President Trump.

Biden tied the death of his eldest son, Beau Biden, from brain cancer in 2015, to an attack on US President Trump, accusing the current administration of “cutting government funding for cancer research.”

“Folks, I know what cancer research means,” Biden told the crowd. “Cancer hits every family. It’s hit my family hard.”

The former US President subtly referenced his son’s service in Iraq: “When the love of my life, my oldest son, the attorney general of the state of Delaware – who should’ve been the president, not me – volunteered to go to Iraq for a year, didn’t have to, he came back with stage four glioblastoma because he lived in a burn pit just like those guys did on 9/11, and he died.”

Biden, who disclosed a diagnosis of stage four prostate cancer earlier this year, then spoke about his own health struggle. He lauded medical advancements, saying, “Well, thank God for the doctors and nurses and incredible breakthroughs we’re making in cancer research.”

He then shifted to his primary accusation: “Now, Trump and his Republican friends are cutting government funding for health care, making it more expensive.”

The 46th President, who will turn 83 on November 20th, appeared at the event with a seemingly fresh bandage on the top-left portion of his head.

The cause of the new bandage remains uncertain. In August, Biden had undergone Mohs surgery for skin cancer, appearing publicly with a bandage on a different part of his head following that procedure.

Biden grew visibly impassioned when continuing his critique of the Trump administration, connecting budget cuts to tax reductions for the “wealthiest people in America.”

The former President became particularly incensed when addressing the record-long government shutdown.

Trump “better get the damn government open,” Biden fumed. “We have a president who is deliberately making hunger worse for Americans,” he charged, referencing the funding lapse for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). “In the United States of America, 1 in 5 children, 1 in 5 children, go to bed hungry every night!”

When the crowd responded with boos, Biden stated: “No, no, it’s more than ‘boo’ … it’s a disgrace!” Trump and Republicans have attributed the prolonged impasse to Senate Democrats’ refusal to vote in favor of a measure that would fund the government at pre-shutdown levels.

Biden wrapped up his speech by celebrating recent Democratic victories in state elections, declaring, “The Democratic Party is back – not hyperbole.” He argued that the strong performance in states like Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, New York City, Georgia, and Mississippi shows voters are “sending a message to Trump and to his crowd.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
