Rufai’s Wife Questions Tinubu’s Gratitude For Their Support During Campaigning

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged by Hajiya Asiya El-Rufai, the wife of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, to guarantee her husband’s constitutional rights while he is being prosecuted.

Together with El-Rufai’s second wife, Aichatou, Asiya told reporters in Abuja on Tuesday that the family was requesting that the president ensure the former governor is treated fairly rather than halt the legal action against him.

“We are not asking you to stop the prosecution. We are only asking that he be allowed to enjoy the basic human rights guaranteed by the Constitution, including access to medical care, his family, lawyers and bail on reasonable terms.”

“Mr. President, I campaigned for you across Kaduna State. My husband stood by your side. Is this what our family deserves?”

“If he is guilty, let the court decide. If he is innocent, let the court also decide. Please let him have the rights every Nigerian is entitled to.”

“We, the family, are traumatised. We live in constant fear that we will wake up and hear some bad news.”

“We want a fair trial. Malam cannot adequately prepare for his defence while he remains in custody and has limited access to his lawyers,” she said.

I believe that justice should be tempered with mercy. His family deserves the opportunity to be with him and provide support, and he too should be granted access to the necessary medical attention. Showing compassion in this moment reflects true humanity and understanding.
