Nigerian Footballers Call Out NFF For Owning Super Falcons

Some Nigerian footballers have joined the push for the Nigerian Football Federation to pay unpaid allowances owed to Super Falcons players.

This comes after FIFPRO, the body that represents professional footballers, announced in a statement that it will assist the players of Nigeria’s women’s senior team, the Super Falcons, in obtaining outstanding bonus payments, camp allowances, and other expenses from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Following the Falcons’ departure from the present tournament, FIFPRO stated that it is unfortunate that players will have to go after the NFF to obtain what is due to them.

The football organization claimed that it would do everything necessary to ensure that all money which is due was paid.

Asisat Oshoala, a Super Falcons forward, also shared the FIFpro statement on Instagram.

Napoli and Super Eagles striker wrote: “Pay them NFF” in the comments section.

Former Everton striker, Victor Anichebe, replied to the post with: “NFF pay them! They did us all proud! And even if they didn’t. Pay them what they are owed!!!”

Ex-Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, said: “NFF never stop these things.”

The Nigeria Football Federation’s General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, informed the Falcons in June that their match incentives of £15,760 (AUS$30,000) for participating in the group rounds of the competition had been canceled by the federation.

During the World Cup buildup, Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum disclosed that several players are owed “per diem and bonuses” from two years ago.

The claims nearly derailed Nigerian footballers’ preparations for the competition.

Following their final World Cup group game, FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura informed the Nigerian women’s team that their prize money for playing in the 2023 Women’s World Cup will be paid directly by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

“It is because of you (the Super Falcons) that for the first time in the history of FIFA, the Women’s World Cup prize money will be paid directly to you, the players,” Samoura said in a video posted by UK-based Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana.
