Snoop Dogg Set To Carry Olympic Flame In Paris

This Friday, before the opening ceremony of the Paris Games, American musician; Snoop Dogg will be one of the bearers of the Olympic flame. The mayor of the town; Mathieu Hanotin, recently revealed that Snoop Dogg will take it through the streets of Saint-Denis, an ethnically mixed district of northern Paris that is home to the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre.

Sergey Bubka, a retired pole vaulter from Ukraine, French rapper MC Solaar, and French actress Laetitia Casta are among the other carriers in Saint-Denis on Friday.

After traveling across France for two months, the Olympic flame will be carried on Friday morning through the athletes’ village that spans Saint-Denis and the nearby town of Saint-Ouen. From there, it will go a short distance to the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Center.

The 52-year-old Snoop Dogg was raised in the Los Angeles area, which will host the 2028 Summer Olympics. The rapper will be present at the 2024 Games not just for the torch relay but also as an Olympic commentator for NBC, a US television network.

Rumors that US pop sensation Lady Gaga would participate in Friday’s opening ceremony have been fuelled by a video of her in Paris a few days before to the Olympic Games commencing.

In videos shared on social media, the 38-year-old was seen arriving at a hotel in the French capital. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will take place beside the Seine instead than in the athletics stadium, but the music has not yet been confirmed.

Aya Nakamura, a Franco-Malian R&B singer, is expected to play despite opposition from far-right lawmakers, such as Marine Le Pen, who said she would “humiliate” France with her attendance. Rumors that Celine Dion may potentially participate in the opening or closing ceremonies have been fueled by her sightings in Paris.

French DJ David Guetta, who is traveling the world, has been overlooked, much to his annoyance. Meanwhile, French electro giants Daft Punk have revealed that they have declined an invitation to participate in the opening ceremony.

Approximately 6,000–7,000 athletes will sail in 85 barges and boats down a six-kilometer (four-mile) length of the Seine from the Austerlitz bridge in the east to the Eiffel Tower as part of the ceremony.
