200-Level Unilorin Student Commits Su.!cide Over Hardship

A 200-level Mass Communication student at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State allegedly committed suicide due to economic difficulty.

It was discovered that the student (name withheld) consumed a toxic chemical at his home on the Oke-odo axis in Tanke, Ilorin.

According to the Guardian, the deceased committed suicide last week after his roommate went for classes.

“We just returned to find a suicidal note that explained his inability to cope again and decided to take the substance and d!ed,” a friend who preferred anonymity stated.

The student’s cumulative grade point average prior to his D3ath was 4.5.

The deceased was being trained and sponsored by his widowed mother, according to a varsity source who asked to remain anonymous.

He said the deceased committed su!cide “due to alleged inability to meet his financial obligations because of the current economic situation in the country.”

He went on to say that the young man’s father died a few years ago, leaving his retired schoolteacher mother to handle his academic responsibilities.

According to a roommate, the deceased had been dealing with a financial difficulty since returning to university last year.

“We have been assisting in our own little way by contributing some funds for his tuition fees and buying foodstuffs for him,” he said.

A top officer at the institution, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He described the situation as surprising and sad.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
