BBNaija Must Be Stopped, It Is An Excuse To Display Sexual Content On Television – Arewa Youths

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, called on the Federal Government on Friday to prohibit the broadcast of the reality television show Big Brother Naija, also known as BBNaija.

Arewa National President, Yerima Shettima, has stated that BBNaija encourages sexual immorality and erotic content, and as a result, should be prohibited from Nigerian television stations.

While speaking with the daily post, Shettima described the reality television show as a catastrophe that Nigerians should refrain from encouraging.

The show, according to Shettima, “It’s a calamity as far as I am concerned; I have never believed in BBNaija and do not believe it is right because the show is an act of immorality. Such a show should not be encouraged.

“I have often said this show promotes immorality and the Nigerian government should please ban it, it should not be allowed to be aired in our country.

“You see, a lot of people watch to see immorality acts, those sex things displaying their nakedness, and they have made it look like a ‘blue film;’ so, this must be discouraged.

“I urge true lovers of the country to join hands and call the attention of the government on the implication of this program which must be discouraged.”

Over the course of the show’s history, BBNaija housemates have been captured on camera having sex or engaging in various other sexual acts.

In the current episode of the show, Angel a housemate was caught on tape pointing her finger at herself during the current season.

In the past year, some government officials have been seen talking against the reality tv show for similar reasons.

In 2019, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture speaking with Vanguard, said the content of the reality program was still being scrutinized by the government.

Olusegun said, “If they don’t adjust the substance of Big Brother Naija, I will file a formal complaint with NBC.” I have high regard for those in positions of authority. I’ll do the right thing the way it should be done, no matter how difficult it is.”
