Buhari Mourns Late Justice Uwais

Muhammadu Buhari the former president has condoled with Nigerians following the passing away of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shaehu on Friday, the former president said he was pained by the passing of the late CJN, “who had a distinguished career as a lawyer and a judge.”

“He was admired for his compassion and justice. He made important contributions towards making Nigeria‘s democratic fabric stronger. He will always be remembered by countless people for his emphasis on a meticulous approach to law as a judge and a member of the Council of States.

“ I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family members, relatives, and friends who are grieving his loss as we all are.”

The retired jurist died on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, according to his family.

Born on June 12, 1936, Justice Uwais served as the Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1995 until his retirement in 2006.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
