Denmark Set To Raise Retirement Age To 70 For Men And Women

Denmark is preparing to increase the retirement age to 70 for both women and men.

The Nordic nation has linked the new retirement age to life expectancy, impacting only those born after 1971.

The age limit will increase from the current retirement age of 67 to 68 in 2030, and then to 69 in 2035.

Tommas Jensen told Danish media, “we’re working and working and working, but we can’t keep going”. “I’ve paid my taxes all my life. There should also be time to be with children and grandchildren.”

The 47-year-old roofer further stated the change was ‘unreasonable’ and emphasized the distinction between desk jobs and those that are physically demanding.

The Danish government has been adjusting the retirement age every five years over the past two decades, with this new regulation approved by their parliament yesterday, with 81 votes in favor and 21 against.

However, Social Democrat Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has previously indicated these figures would be subject to renegotiation.

“Denmark has a healthy economy and yet the EU’s highest retirement age,” he added.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
