Maye Musk; the mother of Tech Magnet and Tesla Boss has revealed that her input didn’t have much of an impact on Elon Musk’s decision-making process.
Elon Musk is worth the rest of $229 billion — Tesla owns Motors and SpaceX, but in recent weeks it has been flirting with the idea of adding Twitter to the list.
Maye who weighed in on her decision to sign on the dotted line for the social media appeared today with Hoda and Jenna where she was asked her thoughts on Elon’s desire to buy Twitter.
“He should do whatever he wants,” she replied.
When asked to clarify whether she was completely against Elon kickstarting Tesla, she said it wasn’t so much a business venture as it was his working habit.
“I told him not to do the electric car, as well as the rocket, and he didn’t listen to me.”
“He worked so hard, he needed a break,” she explained. “And he wants to have solar power and electric cars and rockets. And I said, just pick one so you don’t try so hard.”
The 73-year-old model shares Elon, 50, son Kimble, 49, and daughter Tosca, 47, with her ex-husband Errol Musk.
Musk recently said he would not go through with his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter until the social media platform provided definitive proof that less than 5 percent of its daily users are spam and bot accounts.
Last month, he estimated that spambots comprised about 20 percent of Twitter’s 229 million users — more than four times the figure the company reported.
He initially took out a margin loan of $12.5 billion but reduced it to $6.25 billion after bringing in co-investors earlier this month.
In April, Musk invested $46.5 billion in debt and equity financing to buy Twitter, with Musk himself investing $33.5 billion.
Listening to your mother doesn’t make you the richest man in the world. Or at least that’s the case for Elon Musk.
