Steve McManaman, a former Liverpool and Real Madrid player have pushed interim Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick to recruit Borussia Dortmund teenager Jude Bellingham.

Rangnick, McManaman believes, needs Bellingham in his current team, and the 18-year-old has the potential to develop into an “absolute superstar” at Man United, according to McManaman.

So far this season, Bellingham has been in excellent form for Dortmund.

In 15 Bundesliga games this season, he has two goals and five assists.

So far this season, Bellingham has one goal and three assists in six Champions League games for Dortmund.

“He’s got all the attributes to be a superstar,” McManaman said of Bellingham to Horseracing.

“When you look through the teams and the sides that could buy him – Manchester United would need that type of player as a central midfielder.

“Manchester City, with Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, not so much. Liverpool has got Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho.

“Of course, it would be a great signing, he is a great player, but whether Liverpool needs him now is another thing. Henderson is moving towards the end of his career. James Milner also. So Liverpool could always take another centre midfielder, but it is very congested there. Georginio Wijnaldum left the club in the summer and people said they needed to replace him, but they didn’t.

“But whether people move on and Jurgen [Klopp] brings Jude in is another thing. Man City could accommodate him, but they have got a plethora of great players in there and he might not play.

“I think [Manchester] United needs a center midfielder of that ilk. Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata are coming to the end of their careers and Paul Pogba may leave. So if there is one team that needs a player like Jude Bellingham, it is Manchester United.”
