Finnish PM Takes Drugs Test After Party Video Goes Viral

In the wake of video footage published earlier this week that showed Finnish Prime Minister; Sanna Marin partying with friends in a questionable manner, the PM said today that she had taken a drug test and vowed she had never used illegal drugs.

“I have today taken a drug test and the results will come within a week,” she told a news conference. “Never in my life have I used drugs.”

Marin added that her ability to perform her duties remained unimpaired during the night in question and that she would have left the party had she been required to work.

Video clips of Marin partying with well-known Finnish influencers and artists began circulating on social media this week and they were soon published by several media outlets in Finland and abroad.

The 36-year-old, who has faced some criticism over videos of her partying with celebrities, told reporters she was upset that videos taken at a private party were made public.

“I have nothing to hide. I have never taken drugs,” Sputnik quoted her saying as saying to public broadcaster YLE.

She defended herself, saying that her partying in a “boisterous” way was not due to drugs.

The scandal erupted after some media claimed that a slang word for cocaine could be heard in one of the clips, while others said it was more likely to mean liquor.

The Prime Minister argued she had only drank alcohol and there was no evidence that any illegal substance had been consumed by anyone.

Marin had faced calls to do a drug test from politicians in her government coalition as well as from the opposition after the videos emerged.

Opposition Finns Party leader; Riikka Purra first called for Marin to take a voluntary drug test. His call was echoed by Mikko Karna of the agrarian Center Party, a coalition partner of Marin’s Social Democrats.
