Gratuities for Enugu state pensioners have been authorized by Dr. Peter Mbah, the governor of the State.

Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the secretary to the Enugu State Government, signed a public service announcement containing this information.
According to Onyia, the payment will be preceded by a verification process that will start on Monday, February 24, 2025.
The announcement says:
“The Verification Exercise for Gratuity and related entitlements will begin on Monday, February 24, 2025, the Enugu State Government is glad to announce to the public, especially pensioners and the surviving family members of deceased retirees.
This task is intended just for those who are eligible for gratuity payments and associated benefits.
This statement comes after the verification activities for current employees and retirees were successfully finished. The government looks forward to the same degree of engagement and compliance throughout the gratuity verification and appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders during the exercise.
The Gratuity Verification Exercise’s Objective
The purpose of the verification exercise is to:
- Update and validate retirees’ and next of kin’s records.
- Verify that the gratuity and associated payments are given to only eligible recipients.
- Get rid of payment delays, fraud, and inconsistencies.
- Establish a trustworthy and precise database for later use.
Who Must Take Part?
- Retirees who have not yet been paid their gratuities.
- The surviving family members of retirees who are entitled to a gratuity or other benefits.
Documents Needed For Verification:
To guarantee a seamless and fruitful verification procedure, all participants must bring the following documents:
- Notice of Retirement
- Pension Form and Pension Authority
- Letter of First Appointment
- Last Promotion Letter
- Bank Verification Number (BVN)
- National Identification Number (NIN)
- 2 Recent Passport Photographs
- Payslip or Statement of Account for at least 5 years
- Death Certificate (for Next of Kin)
- Letter of Administration/Affidavit
- Any Other Relevant Documents
Timetable For Verification:
The verification process will be carried out in stages to guarantee effectiveness and prevent crowding. The dates that participants are allotted are determined by their previous workplace or local government jurisdiction.
- Phase 1: 24th February – 10th March 2025 – Retirees from specific ministries and LGAs.
- Phase 2: 11th – 25th March 2025 – Next of kin of deceased retirees.
- Phase 3: 26th March – 2nd April 2025 – Mop-up exercise for those who missed earlier phases.
- Phase 4: 3rd -17th April 2025 – Collation and compilation of beneficiaries and submission of report
Posters, radio announcements, and SMS will be used to inform participants of their precise dates and locations.
Guidelines for Hospitalized or Abroad Pensioners:
If you are overseas or in the hospital and cannot physically attend the verification exercise, please follow the guidelines below to make sure your verification is finished quickly and remotely.
- First, give a signed consent letter or affidavit allowing a person to represent you in submitting your paperwork.
- Your complete name, your pension card information and identification number, and the name of the designated representative should all be included in the letter.
- The bearer will be able to represent you during the verification procedure thanks to this. The verification team will then need to receive the necessary documentation from your designated representative.
You must send scanned copies of all relevant papers to verifygratuity@gmail.com via email in addition to the physical submission.
To make identification and processing easier, please provide your complete name and pension identification number in the subject line of the email.
Our staff will process your papers and finish your verification remotely as soon as they are received. As soon as the procedure is complete, you will be informed. Locations for Confirmation At specific locations throughout the state, the verification exercise will be conducted.
Enugu State College of Education, Technical, will serve as the primary location.
Time: every day at 8:00 a.m.
For individuals who live in rural places, more locations will be announced.
