The upcoming Grammy Awards have been postponed after organizers called the Omicron version “too much risk.”

Although no new date has been announced, the ceremony was scheduled for January 31 in Los Angeles with live audiences and performances.

According to Associated Press, the Recording Academy on Wednesday said it decided to postpone the ceremony “after careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and many of our colleagues”.

“Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron edition, holding the show on January 31 carries a very high risk,” the academy said in a statement.

Last year, like most major awards in early 2021, The Grammys were postponed Due to coronavirus concerns. The show was moved from late January to mid-March and was held in and around the Los Angeles Convention Center with an additional audience composed mostly of nominees and their guests.

Many performances were pre-taped, and none were in front of a significant crowd. The Grammys were scheduled to return this year to their traditional home, the Crypto.com Arena, formerly the Staples Center.

“We look forward to celebrating music’s biggest night at a future date, which will be announced soon,” the Academy statement said.
