Great Things Often Have Small Beginnings!

EPH 5:21-33
LK 13:18-21

What is the kingdom of God like?” says Jesus. For us, we may have observed a seed growing or maybe even studied the scientific process of a seed growing into a bush.  We may have experienced baking bread or even analyzed the chemical reaction which occurs in the process of adding yeast to flour and water. But we really do not know how the generative mechanism actually works.  The mystery of becoming precisely what God has intended from the first moment of existence—is in the mind of God alone.

The kingdom, therefore, is not good and drink but righteousness and joy in the Holy Spirit which demands a conscious attempt to break away from sin and to live a holy life. The mustard seed or yeast seems little but significant. We must the little things of life as important and adds up to the beauty of our holiness and service to God. Like St. Joseph Marello, the founder of the Congregation of the Oblates of St. Joseph, “Be extraordinary in ordinary things”. There may be times when any one of us is tired or discouraged however, everyday is an invitation by Christ to enter His kingdom; everyday we have opportunities to speak and embody in our actions the coming into being of the Kingdom of God, everyday we are invited to move more deeply into being the unique part of the mystical body of Christ that only we can be, that is so necessary to the whole. Thus everyday and every moment we have new opportunities to shine the light that is God’s gift to us and, through us, to the whole world.

God’s efforts to save us is complemented by our own efforts through our obedience , love and friendship with Him and our disposition to care for others as well. In order words, our attitude and comportment in life and to othersmust conform to God’s will. That is to say that for every human being, determination and discipline is necessary, though difficult, the prize won is at the end; though painful many times, but later it bears fruits of peace, joy and gladness. Jesus is the anointed one, who “brings good news to the poor…proclaims liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, letting the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18,21).  This is our mission also, Together, we are part of an inevitable process of becoming what God has intended: the Kingdom of God. We are together in Christ Jesus Our Saviour and together, we make the world a better place. Be heralds of the Gospel by your lives
