“I Will Take My Life If No One Helps,” Widow Cries After Loosing N5 Million Property

Mrs. Victoria Nwachukwu, who lost property worth over five million nairas following hoodlum vandalism in the Iseyin community, following the October 2020 demonstration, has threatened to commit suicide if help is not provided.

She reached out to Nigerians for assistance, claiming to be depressed.

Mrs. Nwachukwu, who lost her husband, a former Sterling Construction Company employee, around five years ago, and her three children migrated to the old town of Iseyin from Mbaise, Imo State, in the year 2000.

She told Vanguard in an interview in Ibadan on Tuesday that property worth N5 million was vandalized during the demonstration.

Items such as a 300W Elepax power generating set, one Thermacool freezer, two large orthopedic foams, two gas cookers, and cylinders, as well as three boxes of her clothes and jewelry worth 800,000 nairas were hauled away, the mother of six mourned.

Electronics and other household items were also stolen, as well as cash worth roughly N350,000 from her business, which was housed in her apartment, and plenty of other items too many to name.

She, on the other hand, has threatened to commit suicide if the Oyo State government and people do not help her in her current situation.

“I lived at Chief Tunde Mustapha’s apartment at Omoloju, in Iseyin, the apartment is beside the office of the Immigration Service and I had traveled for business when I heard of the incident, I rushed back to meet all my possessions stolen and the apartment vandalized”, she said.

“I am a widow who made a living from selling clothes, I have six children that I was taking care of through my trade, I can still not understand why I was the target of their attack, all important documents that belonged to my late husband, myself and my children were stolen or thrown away, we are devastated and I have not been alright since then.

“All my business is gone, my possessions, I am left in the cold, I am now living off my people, Governor Seyi Makinde should please help me, people of God should come to our aid, I am depressed and may do anything bad to myself if this continues.”

The EndSARS demonstration in Iseyin was reportedly hijacked by hoodlums who attacked all security services’ facilities in Iseyin, plundering their facilities and officers’ personal belongings while also vandalizing various structures.

Some teenagers were arrested in connection with the incident, which was condemned by the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdganiy Salawudeen, and the leadership of the Iseyin Progress Union (I.D.U), who stated that the hoodlums’ actions had slowed the pace of development in the village at the time.

The Iseyin Development Union has subsequently repaired some of the security operatives’ damaged offices, while the Iseyin Divisional Police Headquarters in Okutapemo is currently being rebuilt after being set on fire by the mob.
