I’m In Onitsha, I’ve Not Been Arrested – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, who is presently at his home in Onitsha, Anambra State, has refuted reports that he has been arrested.

His remarks follow accusations of death threats and rebuttals involving him and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Felix Morka.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi posted on his official Twitter account to urge his followers to ignore the rumors about his purported arrest, stressing that they were wholly false.

“The recurring fake News on me. I have been made aware of a circulating fake News about my alleged arrest. Let me state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. I am currently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State. Such fake News on my person has become a pastime for some people,” Obi stated.

The former Governor of Anambra State recalls a similar occurrence in 2024, when rumors circulated that he had been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).

“Recall last year September, when I was in Rwanda, similar lies had gone out that DSS invaded my house; now, while I was in my home in Onitsha, Anambra State, they said I was arrested in Abuja. The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive but let us not allow baseless rumours to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation,” Obi added.

Felix Morka, meanwhile, has responded to his controversial statements regarding Obi after the latter claimed that the APC leader’s remarks on his New Year’s speech sparked a barrage of negative responses, including threats of death. Speaking Wednesday on Arise TV’s “The Morning Show,” Morka explained that his remarks were just a direct answer to a query that called Obi a “voodoo economist” and a “prophet of doom.”

Morka also asked Obi to produce evidence of the purported threats on his family and life.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
