Insurgency: Gov Ikpeazu Deploys Troops To Rescue Abia Student At UNIJOS

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has ordered the evacuation of students of Abia origin from Plateau State due to insecurity concerns in the state.

On the other hand, Mr. Chibuzo Ndom, Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, has despatched a team to the University of Jos in Plateau State to rescue Abia students who have become stuck as a result of the recent violence and subsequent closures of the school.

This was revealed in a press statement released on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, and sent to journalists in Umuahia.

According to the statement, “The contingent from Abia which includes security personnel are expected to ensure the safe return of the over 200 students of Abia origin back to the state capital, Umuahia, where the evacuees will be welcomed by the Governor”.

Before this, an organization is known as the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), a socio-cultural organization, requested that governors of the southeast zone promptly evacuate all Igbo students from the University of Jos.

This comes as a result of the increasing tension in Jos.

It was emphasized by the apex youth group in Igbo land that the urgency of the security situation in Jos prompted the governors of Benue and Kogi states to evacuate their students from UNIJOS, thereby highlighting the need for the governors of Southeast and South-South states to immediately rescue and save the lives of Igbo students studying at the northern university.

In a press release, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, led by Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, stated that it was now evident that the Fulani herders had declared war on all other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, including the Igboayakas.

Remember that Plateau state was just thrown under a state of emergency as a result of the killing of more than 26 travelers that occurred on Saturday.

Several schools across the state have closed as a result of the incident, pending the restoration of normalcy in the impacted districts.
