Iran fired multiple missiles at U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation for President Donald Trump’s airstrikes on nuclear facilities over the weekend.
Reports indicate that Iran launched at least 10 missiles targeting the largest U.S. base in the Middle East, located in Qatar, and another in Iraq.
Explosions echoed in the skies above Doha, Qatar’s capital, near the Al-Udeid Air Base.
Following the attack, Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters, temporarily halted flights in its airspace, mirroring actions taken by Qatar just before it was struck.
Qatar denounced the attack on Al Udeid Air Base but confirmed it successfully intercepted the missiles, reporting no casualties. It declared its airspace safe, with no reported de@ths or injuries.
Iran stated the attack on Qatar matched the number of bombs the U.S. dropped on its nuclear sites over the weekend, suggesting an intent to avoid further escalation.
Iran also noted it chose the base because it was located outside populated areas.
Iran broadcast the attack on state television, accompanied by martial music, with a caption describing it as “a mighty and successful response” to “America’s aggression.”
The Ain al-Assad base, hosting U.S. troops in western Iraq, was also hit. It remains unclear if the Iraq base sustained damage or if there were injuries.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as “a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, its airspace, and international law.”
Al Udeid also houses the Combined Air Operations Center, which oversees air power across the region, and the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, the world’s largest expeditionary wing.
The retaliation followed a U.S. surprise attack on Sunday morning targeting three of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Just before the explosions, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian posted on the social platform X: “We neither initiated the war nor seeking it. But we will not leave invasion to the great Iran without answer.”
Earlier that day, Israel broadened its conflict with Iran, targeting sites linked to the country’s struggling theocracy, including the gate of a Tehran prison known for detaining political activists and the headquarters of the military force that quelled recent protests.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
