Kogi Man Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Allegedly Stabbing Two Women

Danladi Ichado, a middle-aged man, was sentenced to death by hanging by a High Court in Lokoja on Wednesday for fatally stabbing two ladies.

The prosecution established beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant intended to murder the women Judging by the weapon he used, according to Justice Nicodemus Awulu, who delivered the verdict.

The evidence of eyewitness Rekiya Rilwan (PW1) had fixed the offender and destroyed his alibi, according to the judge.

As a result, Awulu found the offender guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.

The prosecution had earlier informed the court that Danladi Ichado of Odogomu, Ankpa Local Government Area of the state committed the alleged offense on June 6, 2020, led by Inedu Opaluwa, Senior Legal Officer with the state Ministry of Justice.

Convicted with Culpable Homicide, Ichado was accused of stabbing the woman in the head and the chest with a short cutlass on June 6, 2020, at Oko-Ojuwo, Ogaji in Ankpa, in violation of Section 221(a) of the Penal Code.

Opaluwa presented six witnesses and four exhibits, whereas the defendant only presented one witness and produced evidence in his defense.

The prosecution claimed that the defendant used a lethal weapon to attack Rabiyetu Yusufu and Jemila Yakubu and that the weapon he used indicated that he wanted to murder the women.

He claimed that Ichado killed them by inflicting serious wounds on their heads and chests, damaging crucial organs.

He said that the three women, Rabiyetu Yusufu, Jemila Yakubu, and Rekiya Rilwan, were on their way to the farm on the fatal day when the defendant ambushed them from the bush, putting on a face mask.

He claimed the accused escaped arrest at first but was apprehended and charged later.

In his defense, Ichado tried to establish an alibi by claiming that he was at home on the day of the incident collecting palm fruits and hence couldn’t have been the one who stabbed the women.
