Lagos State Test Running Its 13 Km Blue Line Rail

The 13 km Lagos Blue Line Rail Service train is currently being tested, according to Mr Abimbola Akinajo, managing director of LAMATA, the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.

This information was made public by Akinajo at the start of the ‘Blue Line Rail’ test run in Lagos on Monday from Marina to Mile 2.

She explained that the initiative would last for two to three months so Lagos residents could take advantage of the free rides before the full rail operation begins in April.

The test running will be conducted three times a week over the next two months, according to Akinajo.

“The test run is open for Lagosians from all walks of life to board the train and have a feel of its comfort.

“Market men and women, artisans, students, members of the media, and other professionals are being invited to enjoy the free train ride.

“Any Nigerian who wishes to join the free train ride should send their email address to LAMATA to enable us to book them for the free ride within the week,” Akinajo said.

She asserted that there are numerous factors involved in rail transportation, making it less straightforward than a bus system.

“We must ensure we put them in top shape before we begin commercial operation.”

She stated that before beginning the commercial activity, the authority anticipated feedback from all demographic groups, including traders and students.

The LAMATA boss stated that a train position will run every three minutes and that the automatic processing machine could handle 250 passengers per minute.

Based on the increase in demand, Akinajo stated that the government would continue to meet the train’s capacity.

“For the first phase, the Blue Light train will be able to carry between 200,000 to 250,000 passengers daily based on the availability of rolling stock.

”Right now, the government has purchased three rolling stocks, while another six may be purchased when the second phase is completed by the government.

“Operations would run from 5.30 a.m. to 11 pm every day. The system is designed to run a train in three minutes.

”During rush hours we will pull more trains, while during off-peak periods, we would pull off the operation,” Akinajo said.

According to her, the government was still developing a plan that would make the train affordable for the general public in light of the current state of the country. (NAN)
