Nigerian Actor Lateef Adedimeji Reveals How Trolls Called His Wife Barren

Lateef Adedimeji, a Nollywood actor and filmmaker, has talked candidly about his experiences working in the industry.

He remembered a Yoruba film business adviser who said he would fail in his career in a year. But he boldly asked for two years to prove himself, challenging him.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Adedimeji also related the beautiful tale of how he proposed to his wife, Bimpe, over the phone and how she has supported him in spite of cruel remarks and internet trolling, including allegations that she is infertile.

Lateef thanked his wife for helping him, especially during the difficult period he was working on his project, Lisabi.

He said, “Someone once told me in the Yoruba movie industry that he gave me one year to see what I would become. I told him to give me two years and he will see what I will become.

“My wife and I have received a lot of trolls. Recently, someone called her barren on social media. She would always show it to me and would say they would be all right.

“I just called her one morning and asked if she would marry me and she said Yes.

“When I wanted to do my first big screen job, Lisabi, I realised that everybody that I felt would stand by me was not there; there was nobody.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
