Nursing Mother Set Free After N1.5 Million Ransom In Bauchi

Rukayyat Odedoyin, a nursing mother, has been rescued from the hands of her kidnappers following the payment of a N1.5 million ransom.

This comes approximately ten days after she was kidnapped by the unidentified gunmen.

Pandemonium erupted in Birshin Fulani, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, on September 17, 2021, according to reports from the Punch.

Gunmen invaded the area and allegedly kidnapped a nursing mother known as Mrs. Rukayyat Odedoyin, who was allegedly taken to a location unknown.

It was around 12 am when the kidnappers, who were approximately ten in number, stormed into the neighborhood, forcing themselves through the main door before gaining entry into the house, said neighbors.

Her kidnapping caused a riot in which enraged people flocked to the streets, blocking highways and hurling insults at the police and the administration for “failing” to provide adequate protection.

A telephone discussion with media on Monday with the nursing mother’s husband, Engr Surajudden Odedoyin, verified that his wife had been released from captivity.

He claimed that the sum of N1.5 million was paid to the kidnappers in exchange for the release of his wife.

“I received her this (Monday) morning after N1.5 million ransom was paid to the kidnappers,” the husband said.

“She is currently with me and I will take her to the hospital for a medical check-up.”

“Rukayyat is psychologically traumatized following the kidnapped incident because it was a difficult moment for her throughout the period of captivity,” he added.

“She was sleeping in the bush under humiliating conditions because whether it was raining or sunny, she was kept outside throughout her stay with the kidnappers.”

He said that the kidnapping of his wife was one of the worse experiences of his life.

“It’s very difficult to even explain or describe how horrifying it is for me and the family, but we give glory to God now that she is back with us”, he said.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
