Police Dismiss 2 Senior Officers, Reduce Ranks Of 6 Others Over Corruption

The Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the discharge and prosecution of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) for gross misconduct and corruption.

Ikechukwu Ani, PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, confirmed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, January 13. According to Ani, the commission accepted the promotion of two Superintendents of Police (SP) to Deputy Superintendents (DSP), one DSP to Assistant Superintendent (ASP), and three ASP to Inspector.

According to the PSC spokesman, the decisions were highlights of the commission’s second Plenary Meeting in Abuja.

He stated that the commission also approved a strong reprimand for ten senior police officers found guilty of unauthorised disclosure of government secrets, dishonesty, sabotage, and conduct unbecoming of senior officials.

According to him, another nine senior officers were reprimanded, a Deputy Commissioner of Police was found not guilty and exonerated, and one ASP received a letter of caution.

Ani further stated that the panel previously considered recommendations for police promotions and advanced certain senior officers, including 11 Commissioners of Police (CP), to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG).

He stated that 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to CPs, 21 ACPs to DCPs, 57 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to ACPs, 1,348 SPs to CSPs, and 876 DSPs to SPs.

He stated that the Commission’s Chairman, Mr Hashimu Argungu, pledged the commission’s commitment to ensuring discipline among Nigeria Police Force officers so that they can carry out their constitutional responsibilities efficiently.

According to Ani, the PSC chairman stated that the panel would give Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) the necessary attention to guarantee that no police officer was unjustly slowed.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
