Sunday Igboho Hospitalised Due To Organ Failure

Sunday Igboho Hospitalised Due To Organ Failure

Embattled Yoruba Nation agitator; Sunday Adeyemo has been reportedly diagnosed with possible kidney or lungs illness in Benin Republic.

This was disclosed by one of his lawyers, Yomi Aliyyu, in an interview with BBC Yoruba on Wednesday. The lawyer revealed that Igboho who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho,
developed the illness in Benin Republic prison custody, adding that the Yoruba secessionist leader has also been critically ill and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Aliyyu further raised an alarm that Sunday Igboho needed urgent medical attention.

He said, “Igboho was not diagnosed with this sickness before he was arrested in Cotonou. It was so critical that they had to rush him to the hospital.

“I can’t tell if he has been returned to the prison from the hospital but what I know is, he’s battling ill health and it seems his kidney and lungs are already being affected.

“Even though I cannot tell which part of his body the sickness has really affected, I know it has to do with his internal organs,” the lawyer stated.

The latest development was also confirmed by sources in the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua.

“Yes, he is ill and his kidney appears affected. We are not very sure yet. Another test result is expected for confirmation. We are working on that and I can assure you that he is in safe hands,” one of the sources said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for Ilana Oodua, Maxwell Adeleye, added, “Expect our reaction soon. But the government should be warned that nothing must happen to Igboho.”

Recalls that Sunday Igboho, who is currently in a detention facility in the Benin Republic, was arrested alongside his wife on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.

Sunday Igboho’s wife, Ropo, was later released after the court found out that she had not committed any offence.

On his part, the embattled Yoruba Nation agitator was returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

This came after the Beninese court ordered that Sunday Igboho be remanded in a prison facility in the Francophone West African nation while further investigations were carried out on the case against the agitator.

The Yoruba rights activist, who is now seeking asylum in the Benin Republic, is facing allegations bordering on trafficking in arms, inciting violence, and causing disunity in Nigeria.
