United States President Donald Trump has said Iran possessed more missiles than initially believed and was preparing to launch an attack on the United States.
Trump made the remark on Monday while addressing House Republicans at their annual policy retreat in Florida.
“I’ll give you the best reason of all. Within a week, they were going to attack us, 100%. They were ready.
“They had all these missiles, far more than anyone thought, and they were going to attack us.”
The US leader’s comment comes amid the heightened tension orchestrated by the military attack on Iran, which he hinted may soon end.
In a phone interview with CBS News on Monday afternoon from his golf club in Doral, Florida, Trump boasted that American forces had already weakened Iran’s military capacity.
“If you look, they have nothing left. There’s nothing left in a military sense,” Trump said.
Earlier on Sunday, Iran picked Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new Supreme Leader following the killing of his father in a US-Israeli airstrike.
“I have no message for him. None, whatsoever,” the president said, adding that he has someone else in mind to lead the country.
