Two Under Trial Over Alleged Bus Theft In Ikeja

In a case involving the theft of a Toyota Hummer worth N28 million, an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday granted two individuals bail in the sum of N500,000 each.

They are being held on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and neglect. The suspect are Emmanuel Damson, 26, and Isiah Ibrahim, 33, of the Idioro area of Mushin in Lagos.

The suspects, on the other hand, have entered not guilty pleas to the accusation.

As part of the bail conditions, Chief Magistrate A.O. Ajibade ordered the suspects to submit an affidavit of means as well as two sureties for each of their names.

He stated that the sureties must be profitably employed and that they must provide proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Administration.

The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, earlier informed the court that the accused had stolen the bus from where it was parked on August 20 in Alausa, Ikeja.

They stole a Toyota Hummer Bus Model 2014 with the registration number KSF 485 AX, according to her, and they were joined by others at large yet unknown.

In her statement, Ajayi claimed that the vehicle belonged to Land Records Company Ltd.

Damson, according to the prosecutor, failed to exercise all reasonable steps to avoid the commission of a crime by allowing a man named James Samson, who is currently on the run, to steal the bus.

Samson, according to her, gained entry into the vehicle by using a master key.

She stated that the defendants were detained by the police after they were unable to provide a reasonable explanation for the whereabouts of the vehicle which was allegedly in their possession.

In accordance with Sections 287, 410, and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, the claimed offenses are punishable by death (revised).

The matter has been postponed until October 25 for further consideration.
