I Spend N1m Each For Electricity And Diesel Monthly – Senator

Olubiyi Fadeyi, the Senator representing Osun Central, has claimed that he spends one million naira each month on electricity and diesel.

Fadeyi stated this on Monday, April 29, during an investigative hearing in Abuja on the “need to halt the proposed increase in electricity tariff”.

The senator stated that shifting clients to Band A was not justifiable because they did not receive an adequate electrical supply.

Remember that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission allowed a 340% rise in electricity tariffs for subscribers in the Band A classification.

Band A Vice Chairman Musliu Oseni of the NERC says that users will start paying N225 kilowatt per hour instead of the present N66.

Approximately 15% of Nigeria’s 12 million energy users are classified as Band A consumers, meaning they receive 20 hours of electricity per day.

However, the Vice Chairman of NERC made it clear that users on the other bands would not be impacted by the study.

Before, Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, said that Nigerians who were transferred to Band A now spend less money on buying gas and diesel to run their generators in an attempt to defend the hike in energy prices.

In response, Fadeyi stated that this was untrue and that he continued to spend a lot of money on diesel and power.

Fadeyi said, “I spend N1m on electricity and another N1m on diesel. This excludes how much I spend on my businesses.

“If the electricity was good, I wouldn’t spend that much on fueling my generator.”

Fadeyi continued, saying that in order for the NERC to be effective, it needs to work more at carrying out its regulatory duties.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
