Putin Responds To US Sanctions On Russian Oil Companies Over Ukraine War

On Thursday, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, stated that the most recent sanctions from the United States aimed at two prominent oil companies were “serious,” yet he maintained that they lacked the power to have a substantial influence on the overall economy.

The United States placed sanctions on Wednesday against the two largest oil manufacturers in Russia—Rosneft and Lukoil—which represented the initial set of such limitations imposed on Russia ever since Donald Trump, the U.S. President, came back into power.

“They (sanctions) are serious for us, of course, that is clear. And they will have certain consequences, but they will not significantly impact our economic well-being,” Putin told reporters. He described the sanctions as an “unfriendly act” that “does not strengthen Russia-US relations, which have only just begun to recover.”

At the beginning of his presidency, Trump had originally tried to build stronger connections with Russia, but he has grown more and more irritated by Putin’s unwillingness to commit to a ceasefire agreement, and lately he has expressed dissatisfaction that his discussions for peace with him were not progressing “anywhere.” For several months, the president from the Republican party delayed the implementation of additional measures against Russia, although his tolerance eventually ran out following the failure of arrangements for a new meeting with Putin that was supposed to take place in Budapest.

Even with the introduction of these fresh sanctions and the delay of the planned summit, Putin seemed to still be willing to engage in conversations, as he informed the journalists, “Dialogue is always better than confrontation or any disputes, and especially war. We have always supported the continuation of dialogue.”

Nevertheless, he delivered a cautionary message, declaring that in the event Russia faced an assault involving Tomahawk missiles from the United States, which are being requested by Ukraine, the retaliation would be “very strong, if not overwhelming.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
