Katsina United Fans Sl!t Rival Player’s Throat In NPFL match

A match in the Nigeria Premier Football League involving Katsina United and Barau Football Club turned violent on Saturday, Nov. 8, when fans of Katsina United assaulted Barau FC player, Nana Abraham.

The event took place soon after Barau’s Orji Kalu netted a goal in the 69th minute to make the score even at 1–1.

The goal infuriated Katsina United fans within the stadium, prompting them to rush onto the field and assault Nana Abraham, resulting in a severe laceration on his neck.

Barau FC verified the assault through a post on their official X account on Saturday, which said, “70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”

Only minutes before, the club had marked the equalizer with a different post that stated, “69′ Goal! Orji Kalu levels the scores. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”

Photographs from the location depicted Abraham with blood flowing from a wound on his neck while officials and fellow players hurried to manage the chaos on the field.

The game was paused for a short time as security personnel stepped in to bring back calm.

The contest eventually continued and concluded with a 1–1 score after the standard playing period.

This development follows less than a month after a comparable incident took place in Kano at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

A few weeks prior, following Shooting Stars (3SC) of Ibadan netting a thrilling 94th-minute equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw versus Kano Pillars in a Matchday 8 game of the Nigerian Premier Football League, enraged Kano Pillars fans charged onto the field, physically attacking the referee, match officials, and Shooting Stars players.

This outbreak of violence compelled security operatives to deploy teargas in an urgent effort to regain control.

This act of violence resulted in the NPFL levying severe penalties on Kano Pillars Football Club, which included a ₦ 9.5 million fine, a deduction of 3 points, and a deduction of 3 goals, along with the indefinite shutdown of the Sani Abacha Stadium.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
