Tiwa Savage Shares How Don Jazzy Broadened Her Horizons

Nigerian sensational singer Tiwa Savage talked candidly about the challenges she faced when switching from R&B to Afrobeats after returning in 2021.

Tiwa Savage began her career overseas as a backup vocalist for performers like George Michael and Mary J. before returning to Nigeria and signing with Mavin Records. She was motivated by the expansion of the Nigerian music industry.

In an interview with TVC, Tiwa Savage claimed that her former label boss, Don Jazzy, convinced her that talent is limitless, which allowed her to switch from R&B to Afrobeats.

She explained, “It was difficult for me to transition from R&B to street sounds. But when I was at Mavin Records, Don Jazzy opened my mind to so many different things. He made me believe that talent was not limited, that I could do anything if I really focused on it.

“He took me out of that R&B bubble and introduced me to other sounds.”

In reflecting on her journey, Tiwa Savage expressed deep gratitude for Don Jazzy’s influence, highlighting how his mentorship and insights have shaped her both personally and professionally.

Their collaboration continues to inspire many in the industry, proving that powerful relationships and open-mindedness can lead to remarkable growth and success.
