AGE IS JUST A NUMBER: 16-Year-Old Osasere Okundaye Becomes Nigeria’s Youngest Chartered Accountant

History has a new face, and it is 16.

Miss Osasere Okundaye has officially become Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant, after qualifying through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.

With this feat, she breaks the record previously held by *Jonathan Adewale*, who earned the title at 17 in 2022. For context, ICAN is one of Nigeria’s toughest professional certifications — one that most graduates and working professionals spend years preparing for.

The Minister of Youth Development, *Ayodele Olawande*, led national commendations on Monday.

“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age,” he said in a statement.

“This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” the minister added.

Olawande described Osasere as “a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth,” noting that her story should push other young Nigerians to “break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger.”

He also extended appreciation to her parents, family, teachers, and mentors “whose encouragement, sacrifices, and belief in her abilities have undoubtedly contributed to this exceptional success.”

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to policies and programs that help young people maximize their potential.

“Osasere’s achievement reinforces our confidence that the future of Nigeria is bright in the hands of focused, determined, and talented young citizens,” he said.

He wished her greater success and expressed hope that her journey would inspire “millions of young Nigerians.”

At 16, Osasere has proven that brilliance, discipline, and focus can outpace time. In a country where young people are often told to “wait your turn,” she chose to rewrite the rules.

Congratulations, Osasere Okundaye. Nigeria is proud. The world is next.
