FIFA Reacts To Argentina-Brazil Called-Off Match

The absurd on-air cancellation of the match between Argentina and Brazil yesterday has gathered lots of mixed reactions from football lovers over the world.

FIFA, in a statement on Monday, announced that it will analyze officials’ reports regarding the suspension of Brazil’s match with Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers, before determining the fate of this confrontation.

The match between Brazil and Argentina- lasted for only four minutes on Sunday before the referee stopped it after Brazilian health officials stormed the Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paulo to effect the arrest of three England-based Argentina players – Emiliano Martinez, Emiliano Buendia, and Giovani Lo Celso and unattached goalkeeper, Cristian Romero.

The match which was stopped in ridiculous circumstances was because the players needed to observe COVID-19 quarantine for 14 days after entering Brazil and therefore could not play the match, which was already on.

The Venezuelan referee Jesus Valenzuela attempted to calm the situation by ordering the officials to leave the pitch but with players from both countries joining the argument and to forestall any chaos and violence, the Argentina players walked off the pitch and back to their dressing rooms.

The coaches of the two teams, in addition to Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, and some players from Brazil, gathered on one side of the stadium moments later to discuss the matter.

FIFA has however apologized for the ugly scenes that occurred on live Tv and promised to look thoroughly into the matter to forestall such incidents in the future.
