The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has uncovered another fraudulent entity operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). This discovery has resulted in the suspension of three Permanent Secretaries and the directive for the immediate arrest of the alleged mastermind behind the scheme.
During a briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, ICPC Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu disclosed that the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office was granted official space within the SGF complex without presidential approval. The investigation was part of the commission’s broader effort to scrutinize irregularities in government procedures and expose fictitious organizations like the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
The ICPC identified Prince George Buchi Nwabueze as the purported promoter of the office, suggesting possible collusion with officials within the SGF’s office to facilitate its operations. Following the revelations, President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate arrest of Nwabueze and suspended the three implicated Permanent Secretaries: Richard P. Pheelangwah, Engineer Nadungu Gagare, and M. S. Danjuma.
Additionally, the President has mandated a comprehensive forensic audit of government processes to prevent similar abuses in the future. This crackdown marks a significant step toward rooting out fraudulent schemes and ensuring transparency within government operations. Continued efforts to identify and eliminate fake agencies are essential in safeguarding genuine businesses and protecting public interests, fostering a more trustworthy and accountable governance environment.
