Insecurity: Senator Tofowomo Blames Inadequate Police Funding On Current Administration

Nigeria’s current security challenges, according to Sen. Nicholas Tofowomo (PDP), are the result of inadequate funding by successive governments for the Nigeria Police Force.

While observing repair work on the burned-out Okitipupa police station and area command under his sponsorship, Tofowomo told reporters this on Tuesday in Okitipupa.

On Oct. 22, 2020, during the #EndSARS demonstration, hoodlums demolished the structures, according to NAN.

Tofowmo challenged the Federal Government to ensure that the police were adequately funded and equipped to ensure that lives and property were protected throughout the country.

He said, “Policing in a large and diverse country like Nigeria needs enormous funding and sophisticated weapons, but the poor funding in yearly budgets of the police by the past government is responsible for the current situation.

“You will be surprised that the same police being condemned will have lived up to expectations if the government had improved their funding and give them sophisticated weapons.”

A satisfied and appreciative Tofowomo noted that his concern for the safety of his constituents’ lives and property prompted him to fund the project.

Before December 26, he claimed, the station’s commissioning and handover to the police would be finished.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Funmilayo Odunlami, the police spokesperson in Ondo, praised the senator for taking such a brave action to guarantee the safety of communities.

During a telephone conversation with NAN on Tuesday, Odunlami made this statement:

Her message was simple: “We thank the senator for his display of kindness and ensuring the safety of lives and property of residents, I appeal to our youths to stop the destruction of government property to press home their demands,”

The Oniju Iju-Odo, Oba Festus Olumoyegun said despite not being a native of Ikaleland, Tofowowo has brought relief to the people of Ikaleland by restoring the station.

This is a great example of someone who can be trusted at all times, according to the traditional ruler, advising other politicians to follow suit.
