Man Commits Suicide Over Pressure To Get Married In Osun

According to reports, Muftau Abiodun Musa, a 46-year-old Uber driver, killed himself in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

Leadership notes that familial pressure to marry and depression may have played a role in Musa’s choice to end his life.

In addition to stating on his phone that his people could be reached without any problems and that no one should be saddened by his passing, the deceased left a note instructing whoever discovered his remains to look up details. It was discovered that the man had been suffering from despair for the previous five years and was childless.

According to a source who knew the deceased, he attempted to hang himself in December 2023 but was stopped by his neighbour.

Musa also tried another effort by ingesting insecticide and pesticide, which resulted in his two-month hospitalization.

As a result of this effort, the deceased was forced to transfer to his mother’s home for tight supervision. According to the source, even after he was released from the hospital, his family continued to encourage him to marry and have children, prompting him to leave the house.

According to the source: “In his quest for a new house, someone sublet one of the rooms in her home to him. He has been in that house since May 2024.

“The house rent expired in December, but he was given until the end of January to vacate, as the house owner wanted to renovate the house. The person who sublet the house told him three days ago to find another house, as the owner had told them to leave. He became depressed and hanged himself,” he said.

The Osun State Police Command has taken over the situation, according to the source.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
