President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Federal Civil Service, effective August 27, 2026.
This appointment comes as Didi Esther Walson-Jack approaches the statutory retirement age of 60 and is set to exit the civil service.
Currently serving as the Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, Enitan is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. A native of Osun State, he has accumulated over seven years of experience in this role, having served in various key agencies including the Office of the Vice President, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, highlighted Enitan’s extensive institutional knowledge and his profound understanding of the workings of the Federal Civil Service.
“Mr. Enitan, hailing from Osun State, is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service,” the statement noted. “He brings a wealth of experience and a deep insight into the operational facets of the civil service to his new role.”
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to Walson-Jack for her dedicated service and her role in driving reforms and innovations within the civil service during her tenure. He wished her a fulfilling life after retirement and acknowledged her significant contributions to public service.
Congratulations are in order for Abel Enitan on this well-earned appointment. Your commitment and leadership qualities have rightfully earned you this important role.
